Mel Louis Last II, 44, of Pembine, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at home, with family by his side after a hard lifetime battle with Cystic Fibrosis.
Born Jan. 17, 1973 in Milwaukee, to Mel and Carol Last (Kelly), the family moved back to the Pembine area in 1979. He attended Pembine High School where he was voted class president and graduated Valedictorian in 1991. He then graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mi. with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1995.
He worked at various companies in Minnesota, Lower Michigan and Wisconsin until forced retirement due to health reasons in 2008 when he moved back to the Pembine area to be near his family.
An intelligent, innovative, kind, generous person, he was known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed 4-wheeling with his truck and getting stuck occasionally, but mostly loved his horses, having many over the years.
He is survived by his mother, Carol (Roy) Last of Dunbar; his father, Mel (Linda Greil) Last of Eben Junction, Mi.; a sister, Laurel (David Simmons) Last of Howard; a nephew, Sean Simmons and many aunts; uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and an uncle, Shawn Kelly.
Per his request, no funeral services will be held, but there will be a Memorial Service at the Pembine Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Call 920-241-2227 for more information.
