Born Feb. 24, 1925, she was baptized on April 12, 1925 with the name of Elaine Erna Welch. She married Herman Berglin in 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1991.
A longtime resident of Daggett area, they farmed west of Daggett and she helped with milking cows, driving the tractor and all the chores of a farmer's wife. She cooked many meals for the threshing crew, with homemade bread, pies and cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven.
Active in her Church of Bethesda Lutheran Church and then St. Stephens, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was active in the church women's group. At age 47, she earned a Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Bay De Noc Community College. She worked at Pinecrest Medical Facility for many years and finished her career at Roubals Care and Rehab Center in 1998 at age 73.
Unable to attend the family reunion this past summer in Raymond Center, she left a message to the family of "Don't just know OF the Lord, but KNOW the Lord."
She is survived by two children and their spouses, Bob and Shelly Berglin and Janice and Darrell Freis; four grandchildren and their spouses; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Barbara Welch and many nieces and nephews.
Eight sisters and brothers preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Stephenson, Mi. from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 3 p.m., with Pastor David Christenson officiating. Burial will be in the Spring at Bethesda Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for St. Stephens Lutheran Church. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home of Stephenson is assisting the family with arrangements.
