Leslie Ann (Jossie) Suring, 74, of Kelly Lake, passed away Monday evening, Jan. 8, 2018 at home.
Born Jan. 12, 1943 in Shawano, the only daughter of Clifford and Gladys (Anderson) Suring, she graduated as Salutatorian from Suring High School in 1961. She attended Lawrence College Conservatory of Music, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Madison while living at Kappa Delta sorority house and earned an MSE from UW-Whitewater.
As a certified Reading Teacher, Remedial Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist, she taught at Blair School in Waukesha and Jefferson School in Janesville before returning to Suring. She worked as Editor of Education Materials for the Migrant Families Title I at CESA 8 before teaching in the Suring School District for 20 years, retiring in 2008.
She was a member and past president of NCTE and Northeast Wisconsin Reading Council, led Junior High Forensics, guided spelling bee students, accompanied students for music festivals and worked on study skill programs, while encouraging reading, especially Dr. Seuss.
A member of the Suring United Methodist Church, she served in various roles and attended bible studies. Music was a daily part of her life and in retirement, she played piano for the Hickory United Methodist Church.
She served on the Friends of the Library board where she enjoyed the book club and learning and enjoyed traveling, but felt at home at Kelly Lake with her dachshunds.
She loved her children and grandchildren, knitting them many pairs of slippers over the years and enjoyed playing cards, attending the 4th of July Celebration and the Suring Labor Day Parade with them.
Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Jossie of Plover, Jonathan (Michelle) Jossie of Sobieski and Michael (Dana) of New Berlin and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Suring United Methodist Church on Sunday, Jan, 14, 2018 from 2:30 p.m. until time of the funeral services at 4:30 p.m., with Pastor Rick Haberland officiating. Burial will take place in the Spring in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Suring.
