Mattie Elizabeth (Boman) Strauss, 95, of Hermansville, Mi., passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at ManorCare of Kingsford, Mi.
Born Aug. 1, 1922 in Mountain Park, Ok., to the late W.B. "William" and Carrie (Parsons) Boman, she attended school there and graduated from Snyder Oklahoma High School in 1939. She worked as a telephone operator in Frederick, Ok. She married Henry Strauss on Aug. 19, 1944 in Frederick and he preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2000.
She studied with the Newspaper Institute of America in New York, N.Y. and later at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where she earned a degree in Ministry.
A member of Hermansville United Methodist Church, she enjoyed crafting, activities at her church and working on church missions. She was a homemaker, loved to read and write poetry and had her own greeting card line called "Springs in the Desert"
She is survived by two daughters, Sue (Frank) Haluska and Janice (Earl) Mitchell and two sons, Bruce (Theresa) Strauss and Mark (Jolene) Strauss, all of Hermansville; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings and a grandson, Ryan.
Visitation will be held at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at noon, with Rev. Christine Bergquist presiding. Burial will be in the Spring in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
