Ervin L. Limberg, 79, of Mountain, passed away Jan. 24, 2018 at his home on Maiden Lake after a short, difficult battle with cancer.
Born May 12, 1938 in Marinette, to Ervin and Margaret (Yunke) Limberg, he graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1956 and studied at Ripon College and NWTC. He married the love of his life, the former Donna Retrum on April 20, 1957 and they celebrated 60 years together last year.
They lived in Marinette before moving to Green Bay for 30 years and retired to Maiden Lake in 1995. He worked at Automotive Products in Menominee and WPS for 34 years in accounting, uranium mining and gas distribution/sales before retiring in 1998.
He enjoyed music beginning with 4-H and the Little German Band, then playing tuba in high school band and accordion in dance bands for many years. He also sang in the WPS Chorus and in Our Saviour's and St. John's Church choirs.
With a strong faith, he was involved in many church activities, including church leadership, Evangelism and Fellowship Committees and Christian Volunteers. He was also an active member of the Maiden Lake Association serving as Secretary/Treasurer for many years.
He enjoyed woodworking and built much of his current home on Maiden Lake. He also built items for the Church and Christian Thrift Store, cabinets for his wife's quilting treasures and Christmas gifts for his children and grandchildren. He could make, fix or repair anything.
They traveled and took many trips with family and friends, tallying 15 different countries and all 50 States.
He had a quick wit and sense of humor, was known for his "Erv-isms", wise sayings that always brought a smile and put life in perspective. Family was important and he enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; three children, Terri (Paul) Lewis, Julie (James) Arts and Kevin Limberg (Jim McNamee); five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Randall (Helen) Limberg; a sister, Karen (Arnold) Plonke; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmen (Bill) Ehlers, Nancy (Leon) Mocco, Judith (Greg) Staponkus, Darryl (Rose) Retrum and Scott (Vickie) Retrum; nieces; nephews; an aunt Dorothy and many cousins.
Among his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Karalyn (Jim) Fritz and in-laws, Kenneth and Erna Retrum.
Visitation was held at St. John Lutheran Church in Townsend on Monday, Jan. 29 from 9:30 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Stephen Mueller officiating. Memorials can be made in his honor to St. John's Lutheran Church in Townsend, Unity Hospice or Lakes Country Library. Weber Hill Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
