THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Wausaukee Blood Drive Set For February 19th
Issue Date: February 14, 2018
Wausaukee"-Wausaukee Blood Drive will be held at Wausaukee High School from 12:30 to 5:30 pm on Monday, Feb. 19. The Wausaukee Lions and Leos will help support the drive. All Wausaukee blood drives qualify for Senior Scholarships. Last year $2500 in scholarships was given for Wausaukee 2017 Seniors.
Call Barb at 715-759-5747 or 715-927-5213 to make an appointment, or just walk in to give. The goal is 50 pints and we need to keep it up so we can have good staffing.
The drive will also have red bloods cells drawn. If one meet the criteria they may give. To do this call and make an appointment as this type of donating will stop about one hour before the end of the drive, about 4:30 pm. This will count as 2 units or pints.
Healthy donors may give every 56 days or 8 weeks. Donors may give in both Wausaukee, Silver Cliff and Crivitz all year round. Both will hold drives in June. Persons must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Students 16 years old may give blood with a form signed by their parents. Every unit of blood can be used for 3 or more patients. If taking any medication persons may give blood, but need to be checked to see if they are ok. Diabetics may also give if they are under control.
Rules have changed over the years and now many more are able to give.
Before donating eat a good diet and get plenty of water. This will keep your iron count up so you are able to donate. Low iron is the main reason people are unable to donate. Eating broccoli, raisins, nuts and other high iron foods helps, also.
Anyone who would like to help with the drive may call Barb at 715-759-5747 or 715-927- 5213 to let her know what time and how long you can help. Help is needed in loading, escorting donors, canteen, registration, setting up and taking down, and bringing bars and cookies. Persons may also call for an appointment to donate blood. Silver Cliff collected 29 pints in December.
