Janell "Jan" Thoney, 78, of Cedar River, Mi., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 at Rennes Health Care Center-West in Peshtigo surrounded by family.
Born Feb. 25, 1940 in Menominee, Mi., to the late John and Pearl (Krause) Thoney, he married the former Sharon Kakuk in Milwaukee on July 29, 1961. He worked in construction and sales in Michigan and Wisconsin, was a business owner and was involved in many community civic activities, such as the Jaycees.
He built many relationships which continued throughout his life. He loved sports, coached football at the YMCA, Stephenson Junior High and his wife's softball teams in Michigan and Wisconsin. He also cheered on his children and grandchildren's activities along with the Green Bay Packers. He liked to talk and enjoyed his luncheons with his 1958 classmates from Menominee High School.
A member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, they both were active in the local Parkinson's support group and he cherished time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; four children, Mary Davison, Tanya (Randy Luraas) Thoney, Michelle Wampler and Patrick (Julie) Thoney; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon (Andy) Haywood; a brother, Kent (Judy) Thoney and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Thoney.
Visitation will be held at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Thursday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Fall Creek at a later date.
