Domenic John Cocco, 97, of Carney, Mi., passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, Mi.
Born Oct. 6, 1920 in Caspian, Mi.,to the late Valentino and Julia (Boden) Cocco, he served in the United States Navy during World War II. On Aug. 25, 1945, he married the former Olga Schiavo in Crystal Falls, Mi.
After service, he worked at The Buck Mine and attended meat cutting school in Toledo, Oh. He then worked as a meat cutter at Ray's IGA in Caspian, Mi. In 1969 they moved to Carney and purchased Peterson Brothers Grocery Store and later purchased an additional store in Powers, Mi.
He retired in the late 1980's and enjoyed working in his garden, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, going to his camp in Iron River, making wine and driving his tractors. He was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Olga of Carney; four children, Karen (Doug) Benson of Nadeau, Bob (Cindy) of Carney, Mary (Hal) Cocco of Albuquerque, N.M. and Ron of Menominee, Mi.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Family received friends at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Nadeau on Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. until time of Military Rites at 10:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiated with burial in Nadeau Township Cemetery. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home of Stephenson assisted the family with arrangements.
