Karl W. Baumann, age 96, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018.
He was born on a farm west of Peshtigo on August 11, 1921. He graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1939. Karl was a World War II veteran, serving on convoy duty in the Coast Guard for three and one half years.
He married Marian Finger in 1947. After Marian's death in 1976, he married Helen Ludvigson in 1983. Karl attended Forestry School at the University of Wisconsin. He worked at Badger Paper Mills of Peshtigo as a forester and pulpwood buyer.
Karl was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marinette, the American Legion, a member and past-President of the Michigan-Wisconsin Timber Producers Association and a charter member and past-President of the Forest History Association of Wisconsin.
He was also a charter member and past-President of the Lake Mary-Julia Association. Karl belonged to the Marinette County Historical Society, the Chappee Rapids Audubon Society and the Pommersher Verein Freistadt. Karl had served as a Peshtigo City alderman for two terms.
Karl and Helen spent winters in Estero, Florida beginning in 1988. He had many interests, including hunting, fishing, logging history, genealogy and was a very gifted story teller.
Karl is survived by his four children, Karen (Dan) Everson, Karl Baumann II, Barbara Baumann and Ellen (Mel) Hanneman. He is also survived by Helen's daughters, Kristine (Charles) Hougard and Karla Stadler. Karl has six grandchildren, Mark Everson, Brian Baumann, Karlie Yamray, Kate Wagner, Kent Hanneman and Arielle Stadler and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Bauman; a grandson, Paul Baumann and his wives, Marian Finger Baumann and Helen Ludvigson Baumann.
Friends may call at Faith Lutheran Church in Marinette from 9:30 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday, April 7, 2018 (please note date). Funeral services will follow at noon with the Reverend Michael Mathey officiating. Burial will be in Peshtigo Riverside Cemetery. Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home is assisting the family.
