Thank you to the wonderful supporters of the Easter Basket Project that was held during the past few weeks. The amazing people, non-profit organizations, churches, Credit Unions, scout troops and businesses, of our community once again filled the hearts of many unfortunate children and families with their generous donations of pre-filled baskets, contents of candy, Easter grass and monetary donations to purchase items and gift cards.
The total collected baskets were 233 and were distributed through Health & Human Services, NewCap, Menominee County Early Childhood/Head Start, Rainbow House, Bay Area Medical Center (Aurora affiliated), Abundant Life Shelter, and Salvation Army. Precious smiles and shining eyes were so exciting to see when the children were presented with an unexpected "surprise".
You cannot weigh the nobility of a kind act. My gratitude to each of you is that this memory is stored in my heart and not in my mind. It has helped to unlock the fullness of life into enough and more. Strangers have become friends and smiles have been put on faces. You do make a difference in our communities.
Thank you once again!

Who Owns What's Under Your Feet?
Let's talk about Mineral Rights.s This is what is beneath the very property that you own. When you buy your property you would think that you own all of it. The fact is that you may or may not own your mineral rights. The mineral rights may be owned by you, the surface owner, or by someone else. Your title will reveal this. If someone else owns the mineral rights on your property then you the surface owner do not own them. It would be wise for you the surface owner to check your deed at the County Register of Deeds office where they can pull up the "Chain of Title" records and let you know if someone else has an ownership interest such as mineral rights or if there are liens/encumbrances against the property in question. With the past unfortunate circumstance on Dec. 19, 2001, VMS, LLC filed notices of interest (mineral rights claims) against 53,000 acres in Menominee County Michigan and 38,000 acres in Marinette County Wisconsin on approx.1,500 individual parcels without the owners consent or knowledge. With Aquila Mining Company's proposed back forty mine just 150 feet from the Menominee River it is wise for property owners on both sides of our beautiful Menominee River to research this and find out "Who Owns What's Under Your Feet?"
Letter to Editor:
The City of Peshtigo and the Peshtigo School District missed a golden opportunity, when the no vote won at the election last Tuesday for the new school. Yes our taxes would have gone up, but don't they anyhow, just like insurances, and you wonder "What for, and where is that money going." With a new school being built we would all see our tax dollars at work and be proud to be a part of it. What a beautiful setting it would be with ample parking for events. As for remodeling, that would be a never ending project and could lead to unknown projects that would be hidden and costly. Fixtures and other equipment are not cheap and will only keep rising. To fix and fix and fix is not the way to go.
I give praise to the men and women who put much time and effort in the presentation.
We should stand behind our school system and be proud to be helping pay for a big improvement to our city and community. I'm hoping to still see a change of heart down the road and see a new school built, before it gets more expensive.
Let's be modern, we don't wash with a wringer washer anymore either. Why should our school?
A young at heart senior citizen,
In Memory of Alice Polzin
"Farewell For a Little While"
Farewell to a wonderful lady,
Who's kind and caring ways
Will remain with us forever...
Not just a few weeks or days.
She always had a sweet smile and soft answer,
She always knew what to say,
Though her heart may have been breaking,
Your problem became her's that day.
Alice was one of God's greatest prayer warriors.
She talked to God, throughout the day.
Remembering Pastors, Missionaries
Friends and family...
Plus all she met along life's way.
I know..., cause if I had a problem
That I knew I couldn't bear,
I only had to call Alice,
She was ready with a prayer.
Her prayer line was never busy,
She had a direct prayer line to God above,
Then prayers were quickly answered,
Because of God's, and her great love.
So...I already miss Alice...
I know you miss her too.
Now we'll all need our own direct prayer line
and learn to pray without ceasing too.
With love and deep appreciation,
Written by Joyce Bedora, former Peshtigo resident,
Love and thanks from our whole family
