Robert A. Martin, 81, of Porterfield, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018 in Edinburg, Tx.
Born Jan. 25, 1937, to Alex and Frieda Martin in Shawano, he spent his early life there and was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1955 and married the former Nancy C. Winter on Oct. 12, 1959.
He studied at Milwaukee School of Engineering and then transferred to Milwaukee Area Technical College, graduating with a degree in engineering. He worked for 23 years as a mechanical engineer and supervisor for Johnson Controls in Milwaukee.
They moved to Beloit where they operated a motel business until retiring in 1993 and moving to their home on the Menominee River in rural Marinette. In retirement, he worked at the University of Wisconsin Extension as a mechanic. He was a member of Porterfield Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; five children, Steven R. (Kathy) Martin, Thomas R. (Patricia) Martin, Daniel R. (Amy) Martin, Nicholas R. (Rebecca) Martin and Gina Carol (Timothy) Kraus; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, James Martin and a sister, Delores Kuckuk.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine.
Friends called at Porterfield Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Christina Forsythe officiated with burial in Winesville Cemetery. Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home of Marinette assisted the family with arrangements.
