Carol Rosalie (Schacht) LaLonde, 86, of Lexington, Ky., passed away Saturday, April 28 after a long illness.
Born June 20,1931 in Cedarburg, Mi., to the late Ruben W. Schacht and Adrienne Motch Schacht she was raised in Menominee, Mi. and graduated from Menominee High School in 1949. She was married to the late Robert B. LaLonde and they lived in Menominee throughout their life together.
She received Summa Cum Laude with greatest honor from Northern Michigan University in 1980. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History and Secondary Education and was a longtime supporter of her alma mater.
An eloquent, kind woman of refinement, she loved learning, gardening and needlework. She was a past member of the Menominee Woman's Club, the American Association of University Women and a Girl Scout leader. She also belonged to the Lexington Garden Club and enjoyed visiting the University of Kentucky Arboretum.
She is survived by many relatives including, Jean LaLonde Simon and Jim and Wanda LaLonde; many nieces and nephews and close friends, Louise Demers, Mable Hallum, Jessica Sweeney and William Lalley.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and a brother, Dr. Richard A. Schacht.
A Memorial Service was held at Riverside Cemetery on Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m., immediately followed by burial. Memorials can be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators, formerly Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, Ky. 40504. Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home of Menominee assisted the family with arrangements.
