
Rita PetersonIssue Date: May 31, 2018 Rita "Alta" Peterson, 94, of Manistique, Mi., passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.
Born Jan. 26, 1924 in Cooks, Mi., to Dominick and Merilda (Demars) Popour, she attended school in Cooks. She was married to Walter R. Peterson and he preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 2012. She worked as a nurse's aide at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique for over 16 years.
She enjoyed flower gardening, listening to country music and bringing baked goodies to friends, but especially crocheting. Over the years, she crocheted hundreds of chooks for local churches, schools and various other organizations. In her earlier years, she enjoyed dancing and riding her motorcycle.
She is survived by her twin sons, Darryl (Kathy) Peterson of Cooks and Daniel (Linda) Peterson of Stevens Point; a daughter, Alane (John) Wills of Menominee; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Vern "Bunny" Popour and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and ex-husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Arden; five brothers, Raymond "Babe" Popour, Edward "Pete" Popour, Floyd "Polly" Popour, Richard "Manny" Popour and infant, Raymond Leonard Popour; and five sisters, Lila Desjarden, Verma Rochefort, Lorna Rochefort, Velida Vanderville and infant, Mary Popour.
Visitation was held at Messier Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique on Monday, April 30 from 3 p.m. until time of the funeral services at 5 p.m., with Celebrant Carole Cooper officiating.
