
James A. BeneshIssue Date: May 31, 2018 James A. Benesh, 87, of Marinette, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 at home surrounded by his children.
Born Jan. 10, 1931 in Marinette, to the late James Ambrose and Louise (Wiltzius) Benesh, he graduated from Lourdes High School in 1950. He married Barbara A. LaCoursiere at St. Ann Catholic Church in Menominee, Mi. on April 19, 1952 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 2007.
He served as a Corporal in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He worked at the Stephenson National Bank until retiring in 1991.
A member of the Lions Club, Elks Club and American Legion, he served as a trustee for St. Anthony's Parish and as a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels.
He generously donated to many charities, was a member of Holy Family Parish and Little River Country Club and enjoyed golfing, bowling, shaking dice and watching his favorite sports teams. He also spent much time watching and cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events.
Before getting Alzheimer's, he was known for his fun loving personality, love for his family and appreciation for laughter and happiness.
Survivors include six children, Gregory (Jayne) Benesh of Oconto, Michele Benesh, Susan (Jim) Tress and Tim Benesh, all of Marinette, Mary Benesh-Zoeller (Jeff Timmerman) of Little Chute and Jim (Julie) Benesh of Oshkosh; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and many nieces; nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; a sister, Joyce Cairns and a brother, Harold.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday, June 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at noon at Holy Family Parish"Our Lady of Lourdes Church Taylor St. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to benefit the Alzheimer's Association or COPD Foundation.
