Coleman/Wausaukee Bow Out In Sectionals

Issue Date: June 7, 2018

Niagara Falls To Wausaukee in Regional Final

The Wausaukee Rangers took a narrow 3-1 win over the visiting Niagara Badgers Last wednesday evening to advance to the sectional round of play.

Both team opened up with some fantastic pitching. The Ranger's Matthew Delfosse held the mound for the home field boys while Anthony Hansen spun the ball for the badgers.

Delfosse got a strikeout over the first frame while Hansen set down the first with two of his own.

Delfosse warmed up over the second inning with two more strikeouts.

The bottom of the fourth saw the first run cross home as Wausaukee's Delfosse reached off a walk and cruised home off a Andrew Schroeder single.

Wausakee held the Badgers off the plate till the sixth when Landon Kaldor made it on with a single and scored off an error.

After getting out of the inning the Rangers went for a couple more runs, which would prove to be plenty to secure the win.

Those two game winning runs were registered by Delfosse and Schroeder. With two outs Delfosse clubbed a single to left field while Schroeder walked. Both scored off a Caylor double.

`At the plate the Rangers were led by Schroeder with a two of two showing. He had one run and one RBI. Delfosse was one of two with with two runs while Taylor finished the night one of three with two RBIs.

Niagara's Landon Kaldor was one of three for the Badgers with one run while Charlie Schaefer was one of three.

Delfosse bagged the mound win allowing just two hits, one run and two walks while striking out nine.

Anthony Hansen took the loss giving up four hits, there earned runs and three walks while striking out four.

Coleman Bags Win Over Oconto

The Coleman Cougars made a move down the tournament trail Wednesday night when they slammed the Oconto Blue Devils 7-4.

Most of the action happened right away in this matchup. Oconto started with two runs in the top of the first while the Cougars answered with four in the bottom of the innings. Two more were registered b the Cougars in the following frame for the 6-2 lead.

Oconto wrangled up one in the fourth along with the Cougars who answered with one run in the bottom of the inning.

One more Blue Devil runner crossed home in the top of the sixth for the final 7-4 verdict.

Zach Manning posted three hits and an RBI on the night while Austin Marquardt added two. Mason Risner got two RBIs.

Marquardt took the mound win with 14 first pitch strikes while striking out six

Oconto's Welch registered three strikeouts for his Blue Devils.

Wausaukee Advances to Sectional Final With Win Over Hilbert/Stockbridge

The Wausaukee Rangers traveled to White Lake Tuesday night to meet Hilbert/Stockbridge on neutral turf for a sectional semi game that saw the Rangers run wild for a 7-1 victory.

Though the bats of the Hilbert/Stockbridge boys were relatively silent, they started with a bang as their A. Diedrich scored off a Hermann double.

Wausaukee was quick with their response though as led off hitter Kyle Struve reached on an error and slipped home to the plate off a Matthew Delfosse single.

Then it really became silent, at least at the plate that is as neither team was able to muster a run over the next couple innings.

Wausaukee broke that silence in a big way during the fourth inning. Cole Caylor led off that big inning with a single while Aiden Saw followed with a double Caylor went home off a timely hit while Shaw cruised home on an error. Tyler Gruszynski and Struve both found their way to the plate to bring the Wausaukee lead to 5-1 exiting the fourth.

The sixth saw two final Ranger runs score as Corbin Hulquist reached off a single along with Gruszynski who made it on after being walked. Both went home on a Struve double to deep left field.

Delfosse ended the evening by striking out the final Hilbert/Stockbridge hitter.

Delfosse came away with the mound win allowing four hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out nine. Grant Propson took the loss allowing six hits, five runs (one earned) and two walks while striking out three.

At the plate the Rangers were led by Shaw with a two of three showing. He had one run and one RBI. Hayden Renikow was one of three with two RBIs while Struve finished the evening one of four with two runs and two RBIs.

Noah Hermann led the way for the Hilbert/Stockbridge boys with a two of three showing.

The win advanced the Rangers to the Sectional Championship game which was played later that day.

Wausaukee Crumbles after Strong Opening

After taking down the Hilbert/Stockbridge boys the Wausaukee Rangers prepared to take on powerful Athens in the sectional championship game for an opportunity to get to the big stage at the State competition. Unfortunately for the Rangers, they could not carry the momentum form the earlier win to the second game as Athen bagged the win 10-0.

The heartbreaking five inning loss marks the end of the high school spring baseball in the area as the Rangers were that last area horse in the race.

Athens could not be denied their state berth and it showed as they pushed three across in the first another two in the third and a whopping five run fifth two end the Rangers' season.

At the plate the Rangers failed to produce anything to substainaial as Cole Caylor and Aiden Shaw revisited the only two Wausaukee hits of the game.

Athens was led at the plate by Seth Coker who slugged his way to a two of three day with three runs and two RBIs to his name.

Schroeder was saddled with the loss for the Rangers, giving up seven hits, 10 runs (eight earned) and four walks while striking out three over his four innings.

Dakota Willemssen took the mound win allowing just two hits, no runs and no walks while striking out only two.

St. Mary's Catholic Hunts Down Coleman In Sectional Semi

The Coleman Cougar baseball team met their season end at the hands of the St. Mary's Catholic boys Tuesday night in the WIAA sectional semi-final round, which saw St. Mary's victorious after seven innings 7-2.

St. Mary's got on the board first with a single run on the opening frame and improved that mark in the fourth with another run.

The game busted open during the bottom of the fifth as the St. Mary's boys hit their way to a five run inning for the 7-0 lead.

Before things were all said and done the Cougars registered two runs.

Austin Marquardt had two hits and an RBI for the Cougars while Nick Teteak had one. Blake Former recored and RBI.

Marquardt took the loss on the mound for the Cougars with 15 first pitch strikes and four strikeouts.
