Donna (Ban) Kopish, 88, formerly of Marinette, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018.
Born April 27, 1930 in Chicago, Ill., to John and Anna Ban, she was raised in Hibbing, Mn. along with eight siblings. She graduated from Hibbing High School in 1948 and attended Mount Mary College in Milwaukee with a teaching degree in 1952. She met her future husband, William P. Kopish on a bus in Milwaukee and they married June 26, 1954 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing, Mn.
She taught high school English while he completed a law degree and began his legal career. She gave up her teaching career to become a full-time homemaker and mother to their growing family of six adopted children.
She never turned down a chance to spend time with her grandchildren, watching little ones, Saturday breakfasts at Hardee's, tagging along on a family trip or just hanging out at her house were times she could never get enough of.
Besides her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe with her sister, Anita, going to garage sales and thrift stores finding bargains, saving money and had a special place in her heart for St. Vinnie's.
An avid reader, she was a member of the Dickens Club and served many years on the Stephenson Public Library Board. She was a devoted parishioner of Holy Family where she sang in the choir, was a reader, a longtime member of the Altar Society and enjoyed the craft group with friendship, fun and laughter.
She is survived by five children, Julie (Jerry) Packer, Appleton, Marc (Elizabeth) Kopish and Bill (Jill Davis), both of Marinette, Jane (Scott) Sequin, Green Bay and Anne (John) Lauer, Menasha; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline (Garl) Baumgartner, Denver, Co.; a sister-in-law, Betty Jo Ban, Milton and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Kopish; a son, Paul Kopish; four sisters and three brothers.
Visitation took place at Holy Family Parish, Taylor Street in Marinette on Wednesday, June 27 from 9 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. A luncheon in celebration of her life followed at the Pine Beach Clubhouse in Marinette. Thielen Funeral Home of Marinette assistied the family with arrangements.
