Casper Is M&O's Most Oustanding Golfer
Issue Date: June 28, 2018
Crivitz and Coleman are well-represented on this year's M&O all-conference golf team, with four from each team on the 10-player list.
Leading the first team is Coleman's Kasey Casper, who bested Crivitz's Shane Bauer by a stroke on the season. Casper also topped Bauer by a stroke at the Division III state tournament in Madison earlier this month. Coleman's Cody Van Hoff was also chosen for the first team.
Coleman Coach George Laitinen had nothing but praise for his first team golfers. "Kasey and Cody are players that coches dream about coaching. Both are great teammates to all the other players and they always helped them improve their game. To have two 1st team all conference golfers makes my job pretty easy. It was a pleasure having them on the team for the last two years. I will miss Cody next year and look forward to working with Kasey next year", Said Laitinen.
Bauer had another good season that ended with hard to do 4-peat. "To make it on the 1st team list all 4 years was an awesome accomplishment. My goal was player of the year, but I ended up second by one stroke. Overall though, it was still great to make first team," said Bauer.
St. Thomas Aquinas Academy's Tyler Stuart and his teammate Christian Hornick rounded out the rest of the five-golfer first team. St. Thomas coach Budde Fifarek complimented his two first teamers in their play during a difficult weather shortened season. "Christian started playing golf his freshman year of high school. Achieving 1st team all conference honors is, therefore, quite an accomplishment. The only regret a coach might have is that weather conditions this year did not allow him to spend more time on the course earlier in the season. His performance would have undoubtedly climbed to an even higher level," said Coach Fifarek.
"Tyler becoming a 1st team all conference player is quite amazing. He began his golf career as a sophomore. He was a full time baseball player while learning to play the game of golf. Golf and baseball are not naturally compatible activities. The golf swing and baseball swing are truly not first cousins. For Tyler to put the scores he shot during a rain shortened season is more than remarkable. First team all conference honors were well deserved," added Coach Fifarek.
On the second team were Cameron Zirbel and Peyton Deering of Coleman, who were sixth and eighth in the conference respectively.
Crivitz had three second-teamers in Eli Lawrence, Mason Marvin and Travis Giese.
