Marinate Opens AAA
The Marinette Legion baseball team had to use some late game heroics to knock off Hartford 7-6 in extra innings at Pedersen Ball Park on Friday night. The Marinette offense was strong most of the night because of hot bats from players Nick Daye, who went 3 for 4, and a trio of two-hit batters, Trevor Bloch, Jack Farley, and Riley Reif.
The offense was backed up by a strong opening defensive performance led by starting pitcher, Matt Osterberg. Osterberg opened the game with three shutout innings accompanied by five strikeouts and three up, three down effort in both the second and third innings. This helped the team get off to a fast start as Marinette scored a single run in each of the first three innings to lead 3-0 going into the fourth.
Things got a little shaky starting in the fourth inning for Marinette, however, as Hartford put up five runs in the next three innings off of hits from players such as Blake Lazaris and Nick Vogel. Matt Osterberg finished the night after five and a third innings with eleven strikeouts, five hits, allowing five runs. The score was 5-4 with Hartford leading going into the seventh.
A single by Daye started the inning off nicely for Marinette, and a sacrifice bunt from Tyler Fayta put a man in scoring position. With 2 outs, Jack Farley drove a single past the shortstop to drive in the tying run. On the very next pitch, catcher, Riley Reif hit a single to drive in Farley. Marinette was up 6-5 going into the bottom of the seventh but was unable to capitalize after Lazaris of Harford hit a single off of Marinette's Austin Marquardt to drive in Zach Braun who was on third. The game then went into extra innings with the score tied at six. In the top of the eighth Brandon Eick hit an infield single that gave Marinette the one-run lead scoring Trevor Bloch who had moved into scoring position on a Hartford throwing error. Marquardt and the rest of the Marinette defense held Hartford scoreless in the bottom of the inning to send Post 39 to Saturday night's game against Sheboygan.
Marinate Falls Hard
After posting a narrow victory in their first match up of the AAA State Tournament, the Marinette boys where taken down by a powerful Sheboygan team 12-5.
After a scoreless first inning Marinette's hitters got what appeared to be a great start. Matt Osterberg led off with a single while Jack Farley joined him on the baseline a short while later with a base off an error. The two base runners went home off a Austin Marquardt double to center for the 2-0 lead.
Sheboygan reciprocated the 2 run mark with two of their own during the bottom half of the inning. Ben Souik led off with a single while Sal Parra slammed a single that brought home Souik. Parra made it home off a Erik Johnson deep shot.
Adam Wahl recored a run during the third inning off a wild pitch from the Sheboygan mound.
During the bottom of the second Sheboygan had two runners on when Bren Widder slugged a home run. Parra recoded another RBI off a Nick Akstulewicz run.
During the fourth and fifth inning Sheboygan sent a slew of runner home ending the fifth way ahead 12-3
Marinate managed to muster two final runs during the sixth as Jack Farley and Reif crossed home.

Plover's big second was led off by Logan Schulfer with a base off an error. Mason King was struck by a pitch and Michael Glodosky got a base loaded RBI off a walk. Karen Roberts recoded an RBI while Derek Baumgartner made contact to bring in Glodosky.
A third run came across for Plover during the third thanks to a Jack Kelly RBI.
