Peshtigo Soccer Opener Ends in Tie with Antigo
Issue Date: August 23, 2018
The Peshtigo Bulldogs return eight starters from last year's soccer team, hoping to improve on their 7-11-3 record from last year.
"We have some skilled young players that came in this year to go along with a solid group of returning players," said Bulldog head coach Joe Denny. "Once we get our positioning down we should have a good season."
Logan Frank, Nolan Lemke, Breyden Demmith and Cade Tackmier all return for the team's defensive ranks.
In midfield, Damon Jones will look to build upon a season in which he finished as the team's top scorer. Tye Davis will join him, with Trent Carriveau set to line up at forward. Newcomers include freshman Mauz Salem and Johnny Conn who are expected to see extended playing time.
First-team Packerland midfielder Cam Barrette graduated in May, so he'll need to be replaced. Two starters from last year's squad were also lost due to injuries, but coach Joe Denny has high expectations.
The team is still relatively new to the Packerland, but Denny expects a "high" conference finish.
The Bulldogs started off the season with a matchup with Antigo on Tuesday, tying 4-4.
Jones picked up two goals in the game and Breyden Demmith scored two, including the game-tying goal with 2:31 remaining in the game. Carriveau had the assist on the game-tying goal. "We need a lot of work on our outside with positioning and what their responsibilities are," said Coach Denny. "We got hurt on the backside tonight."
