Area Teams Compete at Gibraltar Invite

Peshtigo, Coleman and Oconto competed at the Chief Kahquados Invitational on Thursday, Aug. 23.
The Bulldogs took sixth in the boys' race of 14 teams. Of 108 runners, sophomore Caleb Smith was 19th (18:35.14), senior Cole Trimberger was 22nd (18:49.50) and senior Reid Marquardt was 27th (19:04.34). Freshman Logan Smith took 32nd (19:48.23), junior Matt Jornlin placed 91st (24:05.75) and senior Euan Gillespie placed 106th (29:18.45).
Of 13 girls' teams, Peshtigo was fifth. Senior Alana Finger took 11th of 102 runners with a time of 22:25.78. Senior Viola Smith took 20th (24:26.13), freshman Sydney Lund was 22nd (24:32.53) and sophomore Emily Halfman was 23rd (24:34.82).
Freshman Jessi Swiatnicki took 65th (27:11.57), freshman Salsabeel Salem was 83rd (28:39.61), and seniors Brooke Lemke and Sidney Gullicksen were 89th and 95th, respectively, with times of 29:47.03 and 30:39.92.
The Coleman boys took ninth. Senior Kasey Casper, a three-time state qualifier, took 15th (18:26.24). Senior Koltin Grzybowski was 34th (20:00.30), senior Bryce Karban was 60th (21:34.91), junior Seth Seefeldt placed 80th (22:48.63) and junior Sam King was 86th (23:20.02).
Karban, Seefeldt and King were running in their first race, and coach Becky Chaltry said they ran pretty well.
"It was a warm one but gave us a nice starting gauge for the season," Chaltry said. "I felt the new boys had a very nice first-ever performance."
The Cougar girls were 11th. Sophomore Molly Seefeldt took 31st (24:56.82), freshman Sara Seefeldt was 39th (25:31.57), junior Ember DeWitt took 46th (26:07.81), junior Mariah Payette took 56th (26:41.15), junior Megan Seefeldt was 87th (29:11.80) and junior Mariah Mursau was 98th (31:53.48).
"Our girls also did well for their first showing," Chaltry said. "We have a couple of new girls as well, one of which was unable to race today."
Sophomore Josh Woller was 11th (18:07.39) to lead the Oconto Blue Devils, who came in 13th as a boys team. Sophomore Logan Allen took 67th (22:09.53), senior Seth Brooks came in 82nd (22:51.76), senior Hayden Honish placed 84th (22:59.36), freshman Josh Maynard was 90th (24:01.71) and junior Sean Durand placed 93rd (24:19.68).
The Oconto girls were also 13th.
Gillett did not field a full team, but sophomore Derek Hanson was fourth in the field (17:39.04). Freshman Conner Hanson was 41st (20:20.72), sophomore Riley Engebretson was 47th (20:50.35) and sophomore Alex Gellin placed 48th (20:51.45).
Gillett sophomore Sylvia Hansen was second in the girls race (19:48.68), freshman Alaina Herrzog was 63rd (27:04.48) and sophomore Itty Ciancio took 96th (31:05.09).
