THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
To Name New Chief Sept. 4
Issue Date: August 29, 2018
After two hours of discussion in closed session on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 23, members of the City of Peshtigo Personnel Committee selected a candidate for Police Chief from a field of nine applicants. However, Mayor Cathi Malke said after the meeting that the committee has chosen not to identify the potential new Police Chief until the appointment is presented for approval at the monthly City Council meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
The position was vacated on Friday, June 29 when Chief Joe FitzGerald left to fill a position he had accepted closer to his family in Michigan.
In July, Council approved Sgt. Rick Badgley, a veteran of more than 37 years on the Peshtigo Police force, to fill the chief's position on an interim basis.
Before going into closed session at its Aug 23 meeting the committee accepted the resignation of Firefighter Matthew Wilson, who is moving from the area.
Present for the Aug. 23 meeting, including the closed session, were Malke, Clerk/Treasurer Tammy Kasal, and trustees Archer Leupp, Debbie Sievert, Mike Behnke, Jillian Schutte, and Brigitte Schmidt. Committee members are Sievert and Schutte, with Behnke as chair.
