Explosion and Fire Damages Two Silos At Marth Pellet Co.

Two silos containing saw dust exploded in an early morning fire on Tuesday, Sept.11, at Marth Pellet Company in Peshtigo. The City of Peshtigo Fire Department received the alarm at 1:18 am. Upon arrival at the scene, smoke and flames could be seen coming from the silos. Firefighters immediately began to pour water on the silos in an effort to cool them down. City of Peshtigo Fire Chief Steve Anderson, called for a MABAS working still alarm which brought in firefighters from the Town of Peshtigo and City of Marinette. A ladder truck from the City of Marinette was needed to get to the top of the 80' silos.
Two employees of the company were working at the time of the explosion. Damage was extensive to the silos and firefighters had to use a large amount of water to extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the City of Peshtigo Fire Department and Marth Company personnel. Other units assisting at the scene were Emergency Rescue Squad and Bay Area Medical paramedics along with the Peshtigo Police Department. Firefighters remained on scene for over two hours.
