Harold K. "Hal" Johnson, 92, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018.
Born March 26, 1926 in Menominee, to the late Henry and Johanna (Thoney) Johnson, he graduated from Menominee High School in 1944 and attended Marquette University in Milwaukee and Jordan Seminary in Menominee. He married Mary Jane Nelson of Marinette on Dec. 2, 1950 at St. Anne's Church in Menominee.
He served on the Menominee Catholic Central and Marquette Diocesan Boards of Education, was a Eucharistic Minister at Resurrection Parish in Menominee and taught CCD and confirmation classes for over 30 years. A member of the Menominee Knights of Columbus Council and the Perpetual Adoration Chapel in Marinette, he co-founded and owned ABC Printers in Marinette for many years.
Sports was a big part in his life, as a participant, coach, umpire and spectator and in his 20's he tried out with the Chicago Cubs.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; a son, Kenneth James Johnson (Dawn VanLaanen) of Peshtigo; daughters, Julie Ann Johnson of Green Bay and Mary Lee (Geoffrey) Sleeman of Rochester Hills, Mi.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a sister, Joanne (Jack) Anderson of Menominee.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl (Marion), Robert (Joanne) and infant, Joseph and a sister, Evelyn (Bill) Buster.
Visitation was held at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Friday, Oct. 12 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. , with the Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Resurrection Catholic Church in Menominee on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Brian Gerber presiding. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee. Donations can be made to Resurrection Parish Food Pantry or Unity Hospice of DePere.
