Donald "Red" Hirsch, 91, of Stephenson, Mi., passed away Saturday, Oct.13, 2018 at Roubal Care and Rehab Center.
Born May 9, 1927 in Milwaukee, to the late Anton and Olive (Wilkins) Hirsch, he graduated from Stephenson High School in 1944 and served in the United States Army in Germany from 1945 until 1947. He married the former Irene Erickson at Daggett Moravian Church on Aug. 2, 1947 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 26, 1996.
He owned and operated Hirsch Distributing Company for many years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, was an excellent cook and was a member of the Daggett Moravian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirene (Ray) Lesperance and a son, Jeff (Sue) Hirsch, both of Stephenson; two granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Dan Ross and his family; a sister, Ruth Payne; a niece, Tammy Weinschrott and special friend, Joyce Tirpak and her family.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Hirsch; a brother, Edwin "Mickey" (Carla) Hirsch and a nephew, Michael Hirsch.
Family will receive friends at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 3 p.m. until time of Military Rites at 5 p.m., followed by a funeral service with Pastor Jim Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
