Germaine D. (Janik) Simonson, 82, of Lena, passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2018 at home.
Born July 12, 1936 in Lena, to the late Frank and Verna (Casper) Janik, she graduated from Lena High School in 1954. She moved to Milwaukee and married Walter Simonson in 1966 and worked at Catholic Knights Insurance and then J.C. Penny for many years. They returned to Lena in 1978 and owned and operated The Barn Tavern in Lena where she was famous for her fish fries, potato salad and overall cooking. A devoted member of St. Anne Catholic Parish, she was active in the choir, religious education and had served as the school cook for St. Charles Catholic School.
Surviving are two sons, Craig (Michelle) Simonson and Brian (Lora) Simonson, both of Lena; three grandchildren; three sisters, Cleo (Walter) Pelishek, Lena, Neva (Gene) Arthur, New Berlin and Jackie (Mike) Danielson, Tucson, Az. and her ex-husband, Walter Simonson.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Janik.
Family will greet relatives and friends at St. Anne Catholic Church in Lena on Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 4 p.m. until time of a wake service at 7 p.m., given by Deacon Peter Gard. Visitation will continue at the Church on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Felix Abano, Father Nonito Barra and Father Celestine Byekwaso concelebrating. Rhodes Charpata Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
