Roger L. "Chummy" Williams, 84, of Rushford, Mn., passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
Born Oct. 27, 1934 in Marinette, to Orland and Florence (Anderson) Williams, he was raised there and served in the United States National Guard from 1951 to 1953. He married Yvonne Carroll on Nov. 27, 1954 and they moved to Rushford in 1974 where he worked as a supervisor at Norse Products in Peterson, Mn. for many years.
A member of the Menominee VFW Clown Brigade, he never missed the chance to boast that in a parade he shook the hand of James Arness (Marshall Matt Dillon from the TV series, Gunsmoke).
A member of Rushford American Legion, he was a social person and well known around Rushford, spent a lot of time socializing at area Rushford businesses and was proud to be the first person to receive a cup of coffee at Rushford Foods after the flood of 2007.
He is survived by five children, John (Tina) Williams, Jeff Williams, Jerri (Johnie) Bellock and Scott (Jen) Williams, all of Rushford and Leanne (Mark Smith) Brand of Lewiston, Mn.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wayne "Butch" (Darlene) Williams, Gary Williams, Mike (Kay) Williams and Dave Williams.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne; a daughter, Dianna "DiDi" Williams and a sister, Mary Ann Lehman.
Visitation was held at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Rushford on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m., followed by Military Honors outside the funeral home. Burial was in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.
