Lorraine June (Steckmesser) Garvey, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 in Oconto.
Born June 24, 1927 in Manitowoc, to Kurt and Anita (Koenig) Steckmesser, she married Glenn Garvey on a cold and snowy Jan. 29, 1949, in Manitowoc. After 65 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 2014.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, with a beautiful smile. She volunteered and participated in many organizations, was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, St. Anne's Society, Friends of the Library and member and past president of both Oconto Women's Club and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
A Cub Scout Den mother and Girl Scout and 4H leader, she loved sewing, quilting, crocheting, gardening, biking, cross country skiing and bird watching. She enjoyed reading and instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance and value of an education. She taught for many years with the Title I Program in the Oconto School System.
She is survived by her four children, Shawn (Peggy) Garvey of Oregon, Wi., Dennis (Kathy) Garvey of Portland, Or., Lynn (Steve) LeBreck of Cape Coral, Fla. and Paul (Jacci) Garvey of Suamico; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy (Martha) Steckmesser, of Panama City Beach, Fla.; many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends, Carol and Jerry Finn of Oconto.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Oconto on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. until time of a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Rev. Joel Sember will officiate with burial will in Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Gallagher Funeral Home of Oconto is assisting the family with arrangements.
