Marian J. (Hintz) Schaut, 97, passed away in her sleep, Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 at The Waterford Assisted Living facility in Wisconsin Rapids.
Born March 9, 1921, to Heinreich and Bertha (Adams) Kopitzke in Hintz, she had 11 siblings and graduated from eighth grade. She attended the Green Bay Seventh-day Adventist Academy for one year., until she was needed to cook for the lumberjacks in the shanty at her father's logging camp. She met her future husband, Lloyd "Bud" Schaut, at the camp. They married and moved to Mountain where they enjoyed 48 years until his death in 1991.
She was involved with all the family businesses as bookkeeper for the excavating business, the feeder route for the school buses, sold Christmas trees, strawberry and vegetable produce for a local market, was active in 4-H as an Activities leader, belonged to the Mountain VFW Axillary, was an Election Inspector and assisted with yearly garage sales in Oconto Falls for the Gillett Seventh-day Adventist Church. She enjoyed traveling abroad and in the United States.
She is survived by three children, Lyle (Okki) Schaut of Mountain, Jane (Don) Gerndt of Wisconsin Dells and Susan Woods of Marco Island Fla.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bud and three brothers and eight sisters and their spouses.
Visitation will be held at Lena Seventh-day Adventist Church on Friday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. until time of the Memorial Service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Rick Binford officiating. A luncheon will follow with burial in Mountain Cemetery after the luncheon.
