Mabel Rose (Messinger) Thompson, 82, of Oconto Falls, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2019.
Born March 6, 1936 in Oconto Falls, to John and Emma (Gallagher) Messinger, she grew up in Oconto Falls where she attended public school and graduated from high school in 1954. On June 2, 1956 she married Gunder Thompson at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls, where they lived for most of their lives and raised three daughters.
They had a cottage at Pine Lake in Hiles for many years where they hosted many family and friends for many fun winter and summer activities.
She will be remembered as a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who enjoyed baking and cooking for all. A member of Grace Lutheran Church, she was a good listener and her wisdom and counsel was often sought by those who knew her. Two years ago, she bought a small home in Bonita Springs, Fla., where she enjoyed her winters and made new friends.
Survivors include three daughters, Kim (Brian) Paal, Bonita Springs, Fla. / Marenisco, Mi., Julie Thompson (Glen Gaertig), Gillett and Sara Thompson (Patrick Moynihan Jr.), Ashwaubenon; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three nieces; a special cousin, Joan (Swede) Peterson and special friend, Beryl Meyer.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gunder on Feb. 8, 2016; a brother, Robert (Marian) Messinger and her mother-in-law, Dorothy Thompson.
Visitation with the urn present will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral services at 3 p.m. Pastor Gary R. Olson will officiate with burial in Volk Family Cemetery in Oconto Falls.
