Lester W. Oliver, 82, of Marinette, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 at Bay Area Medical Center.
Born June 24, 1936, to the late Jimmie and Birdie (Garrison) Oliver in Town Creek, Ala., in 1954 he moved to Chicago and worked at E.J. Brach Candy Co. starting Dec. 28, 1954. On Nov. 22, 1975, he married Barbara Dura in Chicago and after 44 years at Brach he retired in June of 1998, moving to Marinette in 2002.
A member of the Moose Lodge in Forest Park, Ill., he enjoyed casino trips, westerns, telling stories of his youth and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara of Marinette; four children, Tammie (William) Kerr of Minooka, Ill., Karen (Jim) Shortall of Forest Park, Ill., James (Jamie) Oliver of Angola, Ind. and Donna (Louis) Adams of Highland, Ind.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Blanche Zills of Town Creek, Al.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Reed; a brother, Leon Oliver and a sister, Carolyn Richards.
Visitation was held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral services at 3 p.m., with Deacon Jerome Thetreau officiating.
