Russell A. Kanerva, 94, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at U.P. Health System in Marquette.
Born April 24, 1924 in Gwinn, Mi., to the late John and Hulda (Murtomaki) Kanerva, he graduated from Gwinn High School and was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He retired from Enstrom Helicopter in Memominee, Mi. and was a past member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Menominee, Skandia Lutheran Church in Skandia and Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn.
Surviving are a son, John Kanerva of Marquette; two step-sons, Douglas (Joan) Isaacson of Salt Lake City, Ut. and Eugene (Sudea) Isaacson of California; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Among his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elvera; second wife, Mae and three brothers, Toivo, John and Leo Kanerva.
Family and friends may call at Perala Funeral Home in Negaunee on Wednesday, March 13 from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in Gwinn Cemetery with a graveside service in Spring.
