Edna (Miller) Thorpe, 89, passed away Tuesday, March 12 in her Menominee home with her daughter Mary at her bedside.
Born July 15, 1929 in Johnson City, N.Y., to George and Anna Mae Miller, she married Pastor Calvin Thorpe in 1947 and they were together for 55 years until his death in 2002. They lived and ministered in Florida, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio and New York.
After raising five children, she earned an LPN degree at Northern Michigan University and worked as a nurse. She was smart, funny and loved children, nature, games and books. An entertaining and uplifting storyteller and speaker, she remained curious and continued to grow until the end. She taught her children to value helping others, homemade birthday cakes, clouds and simplicity.
She is survived by five children, Mary Davies, Deborah Padgett (Michael), Tim Thorpe (Karen), Sarah Blaisdell (Gilbert), and Marty Campolo (Bart), five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Hanna and Barbara Connor and her book group of 20 years.
Visitation will be held on Monday April, 15 at Community Covenant Church, 1123 13th St. in Menominee, Mi. A formal time of sharing memories will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at noon, with a luncheon to follow. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home of Stephenson is assisting the family with arrangements.
