THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Issue Date: April 18, 2019
Katharina Schwabe, 81, of Little River, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at her home surrounded by family.
Born Dec. 14, 1937 in Yugoslavia, to the late Joseph and Maria (Heck) Fohs, she married Ewald Schwabe on July 4, 1959.
A spiritual, hard-working woman, she dedicated her life to her family and to the care of those who had no family. She was a skilled nurse, specializing in infant care, which led her to foster many children in her early years.
As her family began a life in farming, she continued to care for others by sharing her home with disabled individuals. Many of these people called her mom and Roger, the gentleman who she supported for over 30 years, remained with her until her passing.
Skilled in many things, she was known and will be remembered for her beautiful flowers which she shared with avid gardeners across neighboring counties. In her ending days, many of these friends and neighbors visited daily to bring food, song, love and comfort to her and her family.
She is survived by her husband, Ewald Schwabe; two sons, Carl (Tracy) Schwabe and Ewald H. Schwabe; a brother, Adalbert (Ursula) Fohs; two grandchildren and Melody, Evin, Nolin, Kevin and Philip.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Marcus Schwabe and a brother, Joseph Fohs.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Zion Lutheran Church in Oconto on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. until time of Memorial Services at 11 a.m., with Rev. Michael Mathey officiating. Gallagher Funeral Home of Oconto is assisting the family with arrangements.
