Charles "Jeff" Gretzinger, 65, of De Pere, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019, after a short illness.
Born July 5, 1953 in Oconto Falls, to the late Charles and Frances (Kriewaldt) Gretzinger, he graduated from Clintonville High School class in 1971, then attended Institute of Advanced Musical Studies in Switzerland and graduated from St. Norbert College with a Bachelor of Music Degree in 1975. Graduate studies took him to Vandercook College of Music, Chicago; UW-Superior; UW-River Falls and at St. Norbert College.
He began his teaching career at Sts. Peter and Paul Grade School, Green Bay before moving to Marinette and taught at Marinette Catholic Central High School, where he met Mary Sebero and they married on Dec. 29, 1979 in Marinette. He then taught at Oconto High School before teaching at the Wisconsin School Music Association and then worked at CESA #7, Green Bay.
He received many special honors and recognitions, including the 1996 Kohl Fellowship recipient CESA 8, was 1996 State Teacher of the Year candidate, the Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music staff, a Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996, was on the Wisconsin School Music Association Festival Computer Committee and was a National Band Association member.
He enjoyed woodworking, landscaping and playing in the Green Bay Symphony from 1971-1991.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gretzinger; two sons, Randall (Nicole) Gretzinger and Matthew (Anna) Gretzinger; two granddaughters; a brother, Colny (Jill); s sister, Carmen and many nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carey.
Family and friends can visit at Ryan Funeral Home and Crematory, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere on Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a funeral service at 2 p.m., with Deacon Steve Gretzinger presiding. Memorials are appreciated to the American Stroke Association, 2850 Dairy Drive, Suite 130, Madison, WI 53718. He was an organ donor and his gift will live on in many people.
