Pastor James Paul Wuebben, 86, of Peoria, Ill., passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at Lutheran Hillside Village at 12:35 p.m., surrounded by family.
Born May 18, 1932 in Poynette, to Pastor John Martin and Norma Louise (Lambrecht) Wuebben, he married Esther Loesel on June 23, 1957 and attended Concordia College in Milwaukee and Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He served faithfully for 60 years at many Parishes in Idaho, Nebraska, Washington, Illinois (Mt. Calvary Lutheran in Peoria), North Dakota and Wisconsin and recently was named Pastor Emeritus by Faith Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
A member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Washington, Ill., for the past 12 years, he and his wife enjoyed being snowbirds in Lake Havasu City, Az. and summered in Peshtigo. They enjoyed cruises and overseas trips where he served as a volunteer Chaplain. He loved fishing, camping, gardening, his grandchildren, playing games with friends and classical/Christian music.
He is survived by his wife, Esther; four children, Timothy (Sherry Schams) of La Crosse, Ann (Tim Walther) of Greenfield, Tom (Shari Goetzman) of Island Lake, Ill. and Mike (Kim Eddy) of Peoria, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Harold, Wallace and John and a sister, Theo Wuebben (Callies).
A Celebration of Life for extended family and friends will be held at at Lutheran Hillside Village Chapel on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. Memorials can be made to the Lutheran Hillside Village Benevolent Fund.
