John Louis Wozniak, 92, of Winter Haven, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 20 2019.
Born July 16, 1927 in Chicago, Ill., he was raised in Menominee, Mi. with a family of four brothers, Edward, Leo, Stanley and Walter and four sisters Josephine, Francis, Florence and Mary. He left home at 17 to work on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for a short time and then joined the United States Marines. He had a 24 year military career and served in three major conflicts, World War II, Korea and multiple tours in the Republic of Vietnam. While in service, he met his wife Doris and they raised three children and were married for 44 years.
After retiring in 1969 as rank of First Sergeant, he returned to Menominee where he had many successful careers, including United States Postman, a new car salesman, Deputy Sheriff, Township Clerk and a business owner for both a restaurant and Assisted Living Facility. In the 1970s they moved to Winter Haven where he ran many successful businesses including restaurants and two assisted living facilities before retiring in 1997.
A devoted person, he was a dedicated Marine who served his country and lived a long, productive life with dedication to his family, the Marine Corps, his country and God.
He is survived by two sons, John Jr. and Jeffrey; a daughter, Janet; a son-in-law, Paul Boese; two daughters-in-law, Kiyon and Lena; eight grandchildren and six-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 1997.
Visitation will be held at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City, Fla. on Wednesday, April 24 from 3 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 4 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Rolling Hills Cemetery, Winter Haven, Fla. at 4810 Tilden Road.
