Peshtigo Stays Hot,

Claims Packerland

Outing at Vernon Hills

The Peshtigo Bulldogs improved their team score in their second stop of the Packerland Conference season on Monday behind a strong performance from Jordan Carvenough at Vernon Hills in Peshtigo.

Carvenough had the best score of the day with a 37, followed by teammate Adam Baumann, Oconto's Andrew Westphal and NEW Lutheran's Faith Flynn, who each had 40.

"Jordan displayed his power off the tee and touch around the greens," Peshtigo coach Kyle Cheney said. "It was really fun watching him today."

Like most golfers, Carvenough wasn't completely satisfied, though he was happy with his score. There are always improvements to be made, however.

"I played pretty solid from the tee box to the green, my drivers were straight and my putts were rolling. I had one rough hole, but I was able to stay positive and execute my following shots," he said. "Overall, I would say my putter saved me in a lot of situations and I didn't have a single three-putt all day. I am very happy with a 37, but I am always wanting to do better."

The Bulldogs took seven shots off their total from the first match of the season, carding a 166 as a team. Trent Carriveau, the Bulldogs' top returner from last year's state team, shot a 43, Maija Carriveau finished with 46 and Ty Davis rounded out the Bulldogs' scores with 52.

Bauman's second-place 40 was also a big positive for the Bulldogs, with Cheney saying, "after having some difficulties last week, Adam refocused and played committed golf today. That was great to see, as golf is all about reflecting, learning from mistakes and making the necessary changes."

Most of those changes came in the short game, Bauman said.

"I knew the biggest factor for me today and every time I step on the course is short game," he said. "When I didn't hit my iron shots, I made up those strokes with my chipping and putting."

While Cheney was glad to see his team knock six strokes off its score, he thinks the team is capable of scoring a 160 this year.

Bauman has high hopes.

"I'm proud of the way our team played," he said. "I think if we continue to improve day by day we will make a good run at state again."

Oconto took second as a team with a 191. Behind Westphal's 40, Collin Ebben shot a 46, Will Sherman finished with 50, Noah Young had a 55 and Connor Hornick carded a 58.

Peshtigo Tops

Packerland Field

at Cherry Hills

Coming off a season where they qualified for state as a team, the Peshtigo Bulldogs golf team started the Packerland Conference season with a win on Thursday at Cherry Hills in Sturgeon Bay.

Trent Carriveau's 37 (+1) over nine holes led all golfers on the day. He was one shot under through seven holes, but two bogeys kept him just above the par line.

"Trent's performance was exceptional, tee to green," Peshtigo coach Kyle Cheney said. "I expect him to continue doing great things this season as our team leader."

Carriveau said the weather was the most important thing he had to consider.

"It was super cold and I knew I had to stay smart about my shots because of the wind," he said. "My putting was the best it's been, which saved my score."

Also for Peshtigo, Jordan Carvenough shot a 42, Adam Bauman carded a 46, Ty Davis shot a 48 and Maija Carriveau finished with a 52.

"In difficult weather conditions, our team performed well for the season-opening match," Cheney said. "I was proud of how well everyone battled in the cold, wind and rain."

Oconto was second at the event with a team score of 195, 22 strokes behind Peshtigo. For the Blue Devils, Andrew Westphal shot a 38, just one stroke behind Carriveau.

Will Sherman shot a 50, Noah Young finished with 53, Collin Ebben shot a 54 and Josh Delzer finished with 58.
