Under correspondence, Former School President Dave Kipp submitted a letter of thanks to the Board for the flowers in honor of his wife Jane who recently passed. Mr. Kipp included a check of $50.00 for educational material to be purchased in Jane's memory.

Junior High/High School Principal, Jared Deschane began his report by congratulating Sherri Schlies and Joe Lanich for their April 2nd School Board Election victory and thanked them their continued service to the school district. Deschane went on to say that 48 Wisconsin School Districts went to referendum with a total of 59 questions, of those questions, 75% passed.

The Art/Music annual field trip to Milwaukee took place April 6th and 7th. Student enjoyed: "Big River, Short Play Festival, The Little Mermaid featuring the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and toured the Milwaukee Art Museum. "Senior Class Advisors Dave Lindbeck and Grant Russ have made arrangements to take the Seniors to Camp Bird for their senior class trip. Wausaukee Schools had ൠ students that participated in Solo and Ensemble which was held at Suring High School on March 23rd. Of those students, all received first and seconds. The goal behind the tour is to give business owners and Board Members a chance to see school in action. "District Administrator Bob Berndt, NWTC Welding Instructor Jake Thonne and JH/HS Principal Jared Deschane have volunteered to be part of the "Community Team".

"The District completed the land purchase which was approved at the January 9, 2019 Board meeting of a half acre for the potential of a possible safe walk to school route.

Deschane wrapped up this report with information on a newly developing Military Wall of Honor. This is the School District's way of recognizing alumni from the Wausaukee School District who have served or who continue to serve in the Military. The design of the wall will allow the School District to add names throughout the years. The goal is to have the first round of names displayed by graduation day which is Sunday, May 19th.

Elementary Principal, Katey Ambrose began her report with National School Breakfast week which took place March 4th through the 8th. A new Grab and Go option was launched which increased participation by approximately 120 breakfast meals being served per day. Parent Transition Night was held in Marinette to help parents of Marinette County with the transition of their special needs children into a school environment on Tuesday, April 9th. Ambrose updated the Board on the Bring Your Parent to School Day and Spring Fling Dance which both took place Friday, March 29th. This event welcomes new families into the District and introduces the parents and student to our 4K program.

Stumbris also provided a budget year-to-date for the Board. Graphs were shared illustrating General Fund expenditures year-to-date compared to budget. Nothing alarming was reported and a budget surplus is anticipated. Food service continues to operate in the black and special education along with community service funds are on track with the budget.

In Committee Reports, Curriculum Committee Chair Donna Pinarelli presented to the Board, they defined the meaning of curriculum as materials that are read, discussions and input from staff. Pinarelli spoke on Gap analysis including the current state versus where the committee would desire to be. The committee would like to work with other committee chairs on developing content committees that would facilitate K-12 curriculum work and to continue the collaboration with CESA in science and social studies to emphasize a connection between the content areas through the practices and frameworks.

K-12 Art Teacher Cheri Leiphart presented a PowerPoint to the Board including art examples from each grade level which was explained in detail.

In New Business, the Board approved the 3rd Annual 2019 Tech Camp for students entering 5th through 12th grades. Due to scheduling conflicts the Board approved changing the day and time of the May Board meeting to Tuesday, May 7th at 5:30 PM. This is a volunteer position and will take effect for the 2019/2020 school year. Wausaukee received two alternative open enrollment applications to Crivitz, which both students have attended Crivitz in the past. The Board reinstated the High School Cheerleading Program as a club sport, under the direction of Kara Wojcik who was approved as the volunteer Cheerleading Coach.

The Board convened into closed session to discuss two items: Preliminary Notice(s) of Nonrenewal and Administrative Restructuring. The Board reconvened back into open session and took action on both items. Motion to approve the preliminary notice of nonrenewal passed with a 6:0 vote. The motion on Administrative Structure was passed by a 5:1 vote, with the retirement of current District Administrator, Bob Berndt at the end of June. Current Junior High/High School Principal, Jared Deschane will take over July 1, 2019 as District Administrator/High School Principal grades 9th through 12th. Current Elementary Principal, Katey Ambrose will become the Elementary/Middle School Principal grades 4K through 8th. Berndt said this will be a very smooth transition for both students and staff.
