Issue Date: May 16, 2019

The Wausaukee Board of Education May Reorganization meeting was called to order by Junior

High/High School Principal Jared Deschane on Tuesday, May 7th at 5:30 PM in the media center. Board members Joe Lanich and Elmer Busick were both absent. First order of business was the Election of Officers for the 2019-2020 school year. Sandy Wojcik remained as Board President, Sherri Schlies was elected as new Vice President. Greg Schroeder remained as the Clerk and Bill Orlando was elected Treasurer. Also as part of the Reorganization, Board Members were selected to be on Board Committees which remained the same as the previous year. In addition, the Board approved to continue to hold the school year regular board meetings on the second Wednesday of every month with a 6:00 PM start time. During the summer months of June, July and August, the Board will move the meeting time to 5:30 PM.

Jared Deschane, Junior High/High School Principal began his report with the Junior Prom which was held on Saturday, April 27th. The 2019 Prom court included: Queen Kylee Smith, King Andrew Schroeder. Along with Court Members: Madelyn Schlies, Johnathon Haynes, Sierra O'Mary, Cooper Rollo, Allison Versaskas, and Cole Caylor. No incidents were reported and the students had a wonderful time. This event was put on by the high school Class Presidents: Courtney Messar (Seniors), Andrew Schroeder (Juniors) , Abby Van Laanen (Sophomores),and Natalie Grutza (Freshmen). The Class Presidents did a great job showcasing our Elementary, Junior High, and High School areas. Saturday, May 4th, a group of 8 band students performed at State Solo and Ensemble, where they received a First star rating. Congratulations to Miss Widstrand along with "Averie Menger, Callie Orlando, Madison Vine, Natalie Schroeder, Macy Wojcik, Larissa Rowley, Johnny Grutza, and Cole Caylor.

Deschane continued his report with upcoming events. On Tuesday, May 7th, the 9th - 12th grades will be

hosting their spring concert. Tuesday, May 21st the 5th - 8th grades hosted their spring concert. The 2019 Senior Banquet was Wednesday, May 8th. High School Graduation will take place on Sunday, May 19th beginning at 2:00 PM. "The performing arts class will hold their spring performance on Wednesday, May 15th. This years shows are: ""The Internet is Distract - Oh Look a Kitten!" and "Check Please: Take 2". Deschane ended his report by talking about Wally the therapy dog. "Cheri Leiphart, Wausaukee's art teacher, has recently been able to certify her dog Wally, as a licensed therapy dog. Wally has been able to attend school a few times this spring and the students have responded quite well to his presence. The District is looking forward to more regular visits from Wally in the 2019/2020 school year.

Katey Ambrose, Elementary Principal began her report with Fine Arts Day that took place on Wednesday, April 24th. Student were able to enjoy different presentations with various artist including a dance performance from Wausaukee's very own Ranger Moves dance class. After some rescheduling due to inclimate weather days, the Elementary Talent Show took place on Thursday, April 25th. There were 17 students that performed in the show in a wide range of talents. All the students did a wonderful job. The Ranger Moves dance class held their dance recital on Saturday, May 4th. Ambrose concluded her report with upcoming events, including 6th grade graduation on Friday May 10th, Field Day at Crivitz School on May 14th, Kindergarten graduation on May 29th, and the last day of school on Friday, May 31st.

District Administrator, Bob Berndt started in his report thanked all the teachers and staff for what an amazing job that they do. Teacher Appreciation Week was May 6th through May 10th. This year's theme is "Teachers Are Out of This World". Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day and their work impact extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Berndt continued his report by explaining that Representative Jeff Mursau is trying to circulate a minimum aid budget motion that would establish a $1,000 per pupil minimum state aid payment as part of the state general aid calculation. This would address the continual loss of state general aid that is placing an unfair burden on local property taxpayers in 54 rural, lake area and suburban high property value districts.

In Under Grade Level Reports, Georgi Kapalczynski presented a powerpoint presentation on upper elementary special education. Kapalczynski provided examples for the Board to show them first hand the work that her students complete. She is very proud of the progress and educational gains her student have made within the past school year.

Building and Grounds Director, Rollie Benzow, provided a 10 year plan for the Board and reviewed the projects which are on the schedule to be completed during the summer of 2019, including replacement of flooring, bathroom countertops and fixtures, along with the normal cleaning that goes on during the summer. The NWTC welding/auto lab area will be one of the main focuses this summer with anticipated completion for the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.

In New Business, the Board approve the individual teacher contract language for the 2019/2020 school year along with the list of teachers to whom the contracts will be issued to. The state open enrollment period was from Feb. 4th through April 30th. Wausaukee received 4 new students requesting to open enroll in. The Board also approved to continue to stay with the TRITON Consortium for the 2019/2020 school year. The TRITON Consortium has enough money left in the fund balance to cover the fees associated with the partnership for the 2019/2020 school year, so there is no cost to the member districts. The Board approved 7 full time summer school teaching positions for 2019. Currently, Wausaukee is projecting 62 students, but anticipate the class sizes will increase beginning the end of the school year. The estimate to continue to replace some classroom flooring was awarded to JW Flooring out of Green Bay.

Board President Sandy Wojcik was appointed the 2019 CESA 8 convention representative. Each School Board in CESA 8 has a statutory duty to appoint a member as its representative to attend the CESA Board of Control Annual Organizational meeting. The Board approved the the utilization of the REAP Grant, Title Grant, and Flow Through Grant dollars to make additional technology purchases for the 2018/2019 school year. Plans include to continue to update elementary classrooms with interactive flat panel displays. The Board approved the 2019/2020 WIAA membership. Membership fees have been eliminated but approval is still needed from the District to continue to be a member school. The Board approved seven Start College Now Applications for the 2019/2020 fall semester and approved 1 alternative open enrollment application for the remainder of the 2018/2019 school year. The Board was given a report on the School Violence Event Drill which took place on Tuesday, April 30th. Wausaukee conducted a general lock down drill which meets the state requirements for conducting safety drills on an annual basis. The next board meeting is Wednesday, June 19th at 5:30 PM for the June Regular Board meeting. The Board convened into closed session for discussion on final notice of nonrenewal and personnel update.
