Peshtigo Claims Packerland Crown With Perfect Conference Season

The Peshtigo Bulldogs are Packerland Conference golf champions once again, wrapping up the conference title at Wander Springs Golf Course on Thursday.

Four Bulldogs made the all-conference first team: Trent Carriveau, Jordan Carvenough, Adam Bauman and Ty Davis, with Carriveau named the conference's golfer of the year.

The team showed why it's the class of the conference on Thursday, with four players shooting an 83 or better.

Carriveau led the way with a 76.

"Once again Trent was outstanding as our number one golfer and team leader " I couldn't be more pleased with how well he played in closing out his senior year winning Player of the Year, and building our team momentum as we approach the state tournament," coach Kyle Cheney said.

Jordan Carvenough shot a 78, Bauman shot an 82 and Davis finished with an 83.

Maija Carriveau rounded out the Peshtigo scores with a 101.

The Bulldogs have their eyes on state.

"We proved today that this group has the mental toughness and ability to make a solid run at returning to state," Cheney said. "We will seek to leverage a lot of positivity and competition throughout our practices in preparation to continue playing out best golf leading up to our Regional event at Golden Sands Tuesday May 21.

Oconto was second in the conference, led by first-teamer Andrew Westphal, who shot an 86 on Thursday.

Will Sherman carded an 86 as well, Josh Delzer shot a 106, Collin Ebben finished with 109 and Noah Young shot a 125.

Peshtigo Wins Crivitz Invite Crown; Casper Wins Playoff to Claim Medalist Honors

Last week's Crivitz Golf Invite was an absolute showcase in the levels to which golf has risen in the area.

After 18 holes, four golfers were tied at 74: Coleman's Kasey Casper, Niagara's Alvaro Maldonado, Oconto's Andrew Westphal and Peshtigo's Trent Carriveau.

Carriveau sunk a 15-footer and Casper made a short put after a great drive to birdie the first playoff hole.

Westphal and Maldonado each shot par on the first playoff hole, meaning they were eliminated despite their strong rounds. Maldonado, a foreign exchange student from Spain had to shoot after Carriveau and Casper had birdied, adding to the pressure, but he insisted that didn't matter.

He said he was nervous, but at the end of the day, he finished with the best round of his life.

"It should have been better, but I did my best," he said, referencing his first shot off the tee on the playoff.

Westphal was happy as well. He said he didn't hit his driver super well, but his short game saved him.

"I've been playing pretty good," he said. "I did have a rough meet the other day, but I'd say this is a good comeback. I'm very pleased with my round today."

After their birdies, Casper and Carriveau each made par on the second hole with the pressure on.

Carriveau and Casper shot inverse rounds. Casper started off slow but came away with a win, while Carriveau was under par through 12 holes but bogeyed three holes on the second half of the day.

"The beginning of the round, I started out really bad, like this is the worst I've played, and then once I got to the playoff, I was able to bare down and get the job done, but it was very nerve-wracking because every putt mattered," Casper said.

He hit his putts in the playoff to get the win on the third hole with a par.

Carriveau was still happy with his round and has his eyes set forward.

"I'm very pleased," he said. "My team has been shooting a lot better, so we've got a chance at state."

Petigo's Jordan Carvenough missed a five-way playoff by one stroke, finishing with a 75. The Bulldogs got the team win on the day.

Oconto's Will Sherman shot an 82, Coleman's Dylan Marquardt carded an 87, Karson Casper of Coleman finished with a 90, Peshtigo's Joe Sodini carded a 97, Crivitz's leader was Trey Franzen with a 98 and Peshtigo's Carson Collins shot a 99.

Collins was one JV player getting a varsity chance for Peshtigo on the day, along with Alex Raygo and Joe Sodini.

"Today was a true test of the depth of our team, and we are very proud of the job Joe Sodini, Carson Collins and Alex Raygo did to round out our scoring," Peshtigo coach Jim Dufrane said. "The team was very excited about the win, and we are looking forward to the next challenge at regionals."

Peshtigo claimed the team title with a 345. Coleman was second with 351 followed by Oconto 364, Marinette JV 367, Laona/Wabeno 378, Crandon 403, Crivitz 420, STAA 458, Lena 464, and Pembine 591.

Coleman Remains Undefeated in M&O Conference Golf

Coleman won the Oneida Golf Invite at Thornberry Creek on Monday by 75 strokes.

The Cougars shot a 370, defeating Crivitz (445) and the rest of the field by a wide margin.

Kasey Casper led the field by 10 strokes with an 80, with Karson Casper the next-best golfer at 90. Dylan Marquardt shot a 99, Peyton Deering carded a 101 and Conner DeWitt finished with a 114.

Crivitz was second as a team, led by Eli Lawrence (104). David White shot a 110, Trey Franzen carded a 115, Ryley Bemis shot a 116 and Jayden Christenson finished with a 124.

Niagara took third at 464. Alvar Candau Maldonado was third in the field with a 94. Brooke Schwedersky shot a 111, Cole Brown shot a 119, Ben Anderson finished with a 140 and Jon Phillips shot a 143.

Oneida shot a 485, followed by Lena with 489. For Lena, Mason Simonson shot a 113, Blayden Anderson carded a 121, Dalton Thomson finished with a Brance Bethke shot a 129.

St. Thomas Aquinas Academy shot a 510. Alex Powers had a 119, Kianna Buin shot a 128, Joey Pisani shot a 130 and Dominic Piasecki shot a 133.

Wausaukee finished with a 628. Cooper Rollo shot a 111, Peyton Betts shot a 114 and Dominic Brunette carded a 133. The Rangers didn't have a full team, so they had to take a 270 total for one golfer spot

Marines/Maroons Win

Titles at the

Menominee Invite

The Menominee girls and Marinette boys won the Menominee Invite at Riverside Golf Club on Monday.

Menominee's girls finished with a 409, beating Escanaba by 55 strokes and Marquette by 136.

Josie Hofer shot a 98, Olivia Badker had a 103 score, Emma Hofer and Arikah Bellisle finished in a tie at 105, Madison Derusha finished with 106 and Emma Antilla carded a 125.

The Marinette boys defeated Marquette by 17 strokes, also beating Escanaba, Menominee, Gladstone and Carney.

Marinette shot a 323 as a team, with Ty Kretz once again leading the way with a 75. Wes Knutson shot a 78, Kelten Hermanson finished with an 84, Chas Ferm shot an 86 and Matt Wagner rounded out the Marine scores with an 87.

Menominee finished with a 395, in fourth overall. Andrew MacIntyre shot an 87 to pace the Maroons, Brady Badker carded an 89, Cooper Conway finished with 104, Joe Haire shot a 115 and Kade Lesperance finished with 135.

Coleman Wins M&O Match at Riverside Golf Course

The Coleman Cougars claimed yet another M&O nine hole match on Tuesday, this one hosted by STAA at Riverside Golf Course in Menominee.

The Cougars carded a 193 to best second place Crivitz (224) by 31 strokes.

STAA was third with a 242 followed by Lena 244, Wausaukee with a 276 and Oneida who recorded a 282.

Kasey Casper lead all golfers with a medalist round of 36. Cougar Dylan Marquardt was second with a 45 and STAA's Alex Powers finished third with a 46.

Lena was lead by Brance Bethke with a 61, Eli Lawrence and David White shot 61's for Crivitz and Wasuakee was led by Peyton Betts with a 56.
