Gerald N. Socha, 76, of Marinette, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at his home, surrounded by family, after a long battle with bone cancer.
Born Aug. 16, 1942 in Pulaski, to Ervin and Irene Socha, at a young age his family moved to Milwaukee where he spent his early life and attended South Division High School in Milwaukee. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17 in 1959 for a four year term and re-enlisted in 1963 for a six year term, serving twice in the Vietnam War.
He was honorably discharged in 1968 and received many commendations for his dedication and bravery. He learned discipline and patriotism that never left him and earned many medals, a silver star and a civil action unit citation.
On Feb. 14, 1970, he married the former Sandra Kosewski and they moved to her hometown of Wallace, Mi. in 1971. They then moved to Marinette in 1974, where they lived since. She preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2010. He worked at The Ansul Company until retiring, where he took pride in his work, work ethics and attention to detail
He enjoyed photography, painting, building model cars, doing puzzles, polka music, dancing and going to Brewers games with his boys. Dedicated to Church and faith, his love for family was unconditional and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He is survived by two sons, Scott Socha and Randal (Kerri) Socha, both of Marinette; four grandchildren; a brother, Mike (Soledad) Socha; two sisters, Karen Socha and Mary (Mike) Beaudry and a sister-in-law, Alice Socha.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sandra, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Norbert Socha.
Visitation was held at Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Taylor St. on Monday, June 3 from 10 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., with Rev. Celestine Byekwaso officiating. Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home of Marinette assisted the family with arrangements.
