Russell Grun, 97, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 with his four children by this side at Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette, after a brief illness.
Born May 26, 1922, to Hubert and Mary (Wortner) Grun., he graduated from Menominee High School in 1940 and immediately worked at Heywood-Wakefield (now Lloyd/Flanders). He served in the United States Army, where he learned his legal birthday was May 20, 1922. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
On June 21, 1958, he married Nancy Irene Knapp and she preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 2017. A member of Resurrection Parish in Menominee, he devoted his time to the Resurrection Men's Club and St Vincent DePaul.
He will be missed for his caring nature, words of wisdom and his intelligence, but mostly for his one liners.
He is survived by three daughters, Maribeth (Ron) Harger of Mason, Mi., Anne (Edward) Doyen of Crivitz and Jayne (Anthony) Nemorin of Ann Arbor, Mi.; a son, Doug (Kathy) Grun of Marinette; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Cadieu Funeral Home in Menominee on Thursday, June 6 from 4 p.m. until time of a Vigil Prayer Service at 6 p.m., with Deacon Vince Beckley presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 7 at 11:30 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church with Fr. Brian Gerber presiding. Burial with military rites will follow, conducted by the Military 20 Year Club in Riverside Cemetery at 2 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the U.P. Honor Flight with expressions directed to a family member.
