John E. Hansen, 80, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019, after a 13-month battle with cancer.
Born May 22, 1939, in Escanaba, Mi., to Ernest and Cecelia (Masta) Hansen, he graduated from Escanaba High School and joined the United States Navy in 1958, serving for four years. He married the former Sally Peterson on Sept. 26, 1960. He attended Northern Michigan University and the University of Wisconsin while beginning a career in the aviation industry. From 1964 to 1998 he worked at Enstrom Helicopter Corp. in Menominee as Vice-President of Manufacturing. He then went to Brantly International in Texas where he held a similar position for two years.
In retirement, he enjoyed working in his garage, football games and time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; a son, Steven (Barbara) and a daughter, Holly, all of Menominee; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a son, John; two sisters and a brother.
Per his wishes, a private service will be held at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home. Friends are welcome to attend the interment at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, followed by a Celebration of Life at his son, Steve's home.
