Bess Joyce (Martindale) Desjardin, 90, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at her home.
Born Aug. 24, 1928 in Marinette, to the late Harvey and Irene (Bauer) Martindale, she graduated from Menominee High School in 1946. She met her future husband, Adelore Joseph Desjardin from Marinette during her high school years. They married in August of 1952 at Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Marinette and he preceded her in death in November 1976. She worked at Clark Dress Shop in her teen years, was a driver for her mother and also cleaned and did office work in summer at her Father's business, Marinette Motel in summer.
She earned a Bachelors Degree in English/ Teaching and graduated in 1950 from UW-Madison, Chi Omega. She taught High School classes in Spring Green for two years, then K-8 and 10-12 in later years in Illinois in the South suburbs of Chicago. She also worked in the office at Wausau Paper Mill.
She raised a family of five children, was a Social Director of a woman's club and organized and acted along with her husband in the showcase musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" at her former St. Kieran Catholic Church in Chicago Heights, Ill.
Later she was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Menominee and took good care of her husband, his mother Eva (Bechtel) Desjardin, her mother Irene, her son Drake and his wife Sherry and family and the late Ramona Anderson of Marinette when they needed her.
She was a talented Bridge player, liked to read novels, enjoyed social gatherings with friends, swimming, planting and growing flowers and vegetables, but mostly cherished time with and caring for family and friends.
She was also past President and longtime member of PEO chapter Q, an avid traveler, a cheerleader in High School and the only student that owned a car at the time and enjoyed driving friends around.
She is survived by three sons, Jeffrey (Jaskarm) Desjardin of Putney, VT; James (Karen) Desjardin of Chicago Heights, Ill. and John (Vivian) Desjardin of Menominee, Mi.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and other family members.
In addition to her parents and husband, Adelore, she was preceded in death by two sons, infant son, Daniel and Drake Desjardin; a daughter, Denise Carlson and a son-in-law, Lee Carlson.
Visitation will take place at Cadieu Funeral Home in Menominee on Monday, July 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at Holy Spirit Church at 11 a.m., with Fr. Mark McQuesten presiding. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette
