Lucille Lenore (Firgens) Coppens, 90, of Oconto Falls, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Saint Clare Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
Born Oct. 19, 1928 in Oconto Falls, to John and Anna Firgens, she spent her early years in a log cabin with no running water in Breed and later years in rural Oconto Falls, She had one sister, Margaret and one brother, Rudolph. After graduating from Oconto Falls High School, she worked at Scott Paper Mill in the office until her marriage.
She married Norman Coppens on Sept. 16, 1950 at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Gillett and they lived on a farm in Oconto Falls where she remained until her death. He preceded her in death along with three sons and a grandson.
They raised 12 children, eight boys and four girls. A homemaker, she was a great cook, helped milk the cows and had a huge garden, allowing her to feed their large family.
She is survived by nine children, Daniel (Dawn), Debra (Hans Maass), Julie (Chris Harteau), Patti (Charlie Zielinski), Charles, Robert (Angela), Norman Jr., Todd (Tammy Liptak) and Peggy (Rob Collins) and three generations of grandchildren.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, David, James and Gerald and a grandson, Kevin Zielinski.
Visitation was held at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. until time of the services at 11 a.m. Internment will be at a later date. Donations can be made to to St. Jude's Hospital for Children or the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in her memory as her love of children was well known.
