Henry Charles Porras III, 72, of Mattawan, Mi., passed away from medical complications on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019.
Born March 19, 1947, to Henry II and Vivian (Jarrett) Porras in Menominee, Mi., he was raised on the family farm in Wallace, Mi. and graduated from Stephenson High School in Spring of 1965. He attended a school of Cosmetology in Green Bay and in Fall of 1965, he received certification in a nine-month program. He enlisted in the United States Army two months before graduation so he could choose where he could serve.
He was a truck driver of deuce and a half truck convoys transporting troops, material and supplies throughout South Vietnam and was in the country for 18 months. After an honorable discharge, he re-enlisted in the Michigan State Army National Guard. He served in the National Guard for 34 years before retiring as rank of Master Sergeant.
On July 3, 1969, he married, Lois Cory at First United Methodist Church of Stephenson. They moved to Mattawan where they purchased 12 acres of land, built a home and had two children, Corina and Elizabeth.
He enjoyed playing pool, fast cars, motorcycles, hunting and helping raise his grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Corina and Elizabeth; five grandchildren; his mother, Vivian; and a brother, James (Terrie).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois (Cory); his father, Henry II and a brother, Gary.
