Robert J. Gannon, 81, of Marinette, passed away Monday, Sept.16, 2019 at home.
Born July 5, 1938, to the late Eugene and Dorothy (Shaefer) Gannon in Park Falls, he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956. He was active in Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also active in the Order of the Arrow and earned the Ad Altare Dei Award, a National Catholic Scouting award. He worked five summers during college at Philmont Scout Ranch as Ranger and attended UW-Stout, graduating in 1960 and earned an MS in 1961.
His first teaching position was at Greenwood High School, where he met Marcia Hemersbach. They married on June 13, 1964 and were together for 55 years. He taught Industrial Arts at Delevan High School, was a Principal at Blair High School, was employed by CESA 3 in Oconto and was District Administrator in Pembine and Wittenberg, until moving to Marinette where he was Administrator at Marinette High School. He also owned and operated Lumber Mill Pizza in Oconto.
He was a Jaycees and Lions Club member, a Boy Scout Troop Master and member of Pentecostal Apostolic Church in Peshtigo. He enjoyed his "old time radio", listening to the Packers, Badgers and Brewers.
In retirement, he was active in City Council, School Board, CESA Board of Control, the Stephenson Library Board, Forward Financial, was a delivery man for Value Care and enjoyed serving his community.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia of Marinette; six children, Carla Gannon of South Milwaukee, John (Marta) Gannon of Ashland, James (Amy Gross) Gannon of Savage, Mn., Gina (Steve) Hastreiter of Eau Claire, Marissa (special friend, Mike La Valley) of Marinette and Lucinda (Ben) Welch of Weston; 15 grandchildren and two sisters, Jean (Merl) Schultz of Waterford and Carol (Mike) Murray of Eau Claire.
A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Thielen Funeral Home of Marinette is assisting the family.
