Crivitz Defeats Gillett to Strengthen M&O Lead

Crivitz Holds Lead After Defeat of Gillett

The Crivitz Wolverines took a three set victory over the hosting Gillett Tiger Tuesday night, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-20.

The Tigers were led by Karissa Schaal with 14 digs, 11 kills and one ace. Emelie Horsens posted six digs while Emily Umentum got four digs, five assists, one kill and one ace. Sophie Horsens registered three digs, five assists, five kills and one ace.

Crivitz's Morgan Gyger added up 14 kills for the Wolverines along with nine digs, one assists and three aces. Chloe Gruszynski piled up seven kills, 13 digs and two aces while Saige Nelson got one kill, nine digs, 23 assists and three aces.



Coleman at Lena

LENA-
The Coleman Cougars traveled to Lena to take on the Wildcats last night. The Cougars started off with ease, taking the first game 25-10. In the second game of the match, Lena came out strong and at one point lead Coleman 16-12. The Cougars rallied and were able to set up their offense in order to win the second game 25-22. "They (Coleman Cougars) started talking and working together as a team." said Coleman Head Coach Ashley Broderick when asked how her team was able to come back in the second game. In the 3rd and final game of the match, the Wildcats were able to stick with Coleman most of the way. Then Coleman's offense was able to seal the deal for the Cougars, winning the final game 25-18.

STAA at Wausaukee

WAUSAUKEE-
St. Thomas Aquinas Academy traveled to Wausaukee last Tuesday night to take on the Lady Rangers and beat them in a 5 set match. The Cavvies roared to a 2 set to 0 lead. Taking both games 25-19. The Lady Rangers were not going to go down without a fight and took the next two sets from STAA 25-15, 25-18. In the fifth and final set, STAA tool control in the final set taking it 15 to 10.

STAA was led in kills by Lianna Baxter with 20, Livia Benson's 8, three (Hale Beranek, Katie Knox, and Addison Pristelski) with 6. The Cavvies have won their last 3 matches to move to 3 and 5 in the M & O Confrence.

Last Thursday, the Algoma Wolves played host to the Oconto Lady Blue Devils. Oconto sure made quick business of the match taking all three games. In the first game, the Blue Devils won 25-13. In game 2, it seemed as though the Wolves were not going to go down easy, but lost momentum and Oconto took it 25-16. In the third game of the night, the Blue Devils won it all 25-14.

Gillett at Three Lakes Quad

THREE LAKES -
The Three Lakes Lady Bluejays played host to the Crandon Lady Cardinals, Gillett Lady Tigers and the Rhinelander Lady Hodags last Thursday. Against Three Lakes, the Lady Tigers fought hard but ending up losing two games right away. First game score was 17-25 to Three Lakes. In the second game Gillett lost 20-25. Then Gillett played the Lady Hodags and dominated them. In the first game, Gillett won 25-14. In the second game, the Lady Tigers took off and never looked back beating Rhineland 25-6.

Oneida Nation at Coleman

COLEMAN-The Oneida Nation Thunderhawks traveled to Coleman to take on the Cougars last Thursday. It took all 5 sets to finish this match out. The first game went 25-19 to the Cougars. The second game was 14-25 Thunderhawks. In the third Coleman came back to win 25-23. The fourth set brought about another high scoring game with the Oneida Nation taking it 25-22. In the 5th and final set both teams battled it out until the Cougars took over and won it all 19-17.

Niagara at Crivitz

CRIVITZ-
Last Thursday the Crivitz Wolverines hosted the Niagara Lady Badgers. Niagara seemed to struggle right from the start. The Wolverines attacked the Badgers and did not look back. Crivitz was able to take the first game 14-25. In the second game Niagara struggled to set-up their offense losing 13-25. In the third game Niagara seemed to be warming up, but was unable to pull off a win and lost 16-25. Coach Carol St. Arnauld had this to say about her team's play: "My team came out slow tonight. We struggled with serve receive and serving. It's pretty hard to compete against a team like Crivitz when we couldn't pass the ball and set-up our offense. We know we can do much better. It's a frustrating loss when we didn't come close to playing up to our potential."

Both of Crivitz's JV teams also beat Niagara 3-0. It was a fantastic night to be a Wolverine.

The Peshtigo Bulldogs varsity volleyball team lost Thursday's away conference match against the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 0-3. In the first game the score was Peshtigo 11, Sturgeon Bay 25. The score of the second game was Bulldogs 14, Clippers 25. The third and final game of the match was Peshtigo 20, Sturgeon Bay 25.

Wausaukee at Oneida Nation

The Wausaukee Rangers posted a three set win over the hosting Oneida Nation Thunderhawks, rolling to a win by way of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-13.

Wausaukee was led by Kyle Smith who posted 13 kills, four digs, two blocks and two aces. Kaelyn Schlies got four kills, 12 digs and two blocks while Amber Caylor posted 28 assists with her one kill and two aces.



Suring at Niagara

The Niagara Badgers took a three set win over the Suring Eagles tuesday night when they beat the Badgers with sets of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-15.

Niagara was led by Bailey Pearson with four kills, six digs and two aces. Morgan Borchert posted 11 assists and four digs while Jessica Oratch got two kills, one block and I've digs.

Suring's Grace Fisher posted four kills, six digs and three aces. Stephanie Huth got two kills, one block and three dogs while Cher Whiting posted five assists, three digs, one kill and one ace.



STAA at Stockbridge

St. Thomas Aquinas Academy's volleyball team travelled Stockbridge for a Triangular with Stockbridge and Sevastopol.

Sevastopol took the non conference match vs. STAA 2-0.  

In the third match, STAA dropped the first set, then rallied to take the next 2 for the match.

STAA has won 4 of its last 5 matches.  

In the first match Lianna Baxter led STAA with 9 kills then followed that performance with 8.  Halle Beranek had 4.  

Livia Benson led STAA with 6 assists.

"While it wasn't our best night, the girls fought through errors to win the second match.  We're looking forward to a great week of practice' said coach Katie Benson.
