3 Veterans Organizations Visit Oconto on Nov. 11th

On Monday, Nov. 11th the VFW Post 3071, American Legion Post 74 and AMVETS Post 63 of Oconto visited Oconto Elementary and High School. For Veterans Day the Elementary School 4th graders and kindergartners had a concert for veterans and served them hash browns, breakfast McMuffin, strawberry cup, coffee and water for breakfast. The students then joined the veterans for breakfast and conversation.
At the High School a Veterans Day Program consisted of processional music and National Anthem by the Oconto High School Band directed by McKenna Der Leest.
The posting of the Colors, by Post 3071 Commander Jim Aerts American flag, Post 74 Chaplain Kenny Sallee Post flag and Post 74 Legionnaire Jean Young Gold Star Mothers flag and the placing of the POW/MIA was by Post 74 Sgt. at Arms Melvin Mortier.
Principal Adam DeWitt welcomed veterans and guests, and a formal introduction of veterans was read by Chad Trepanier, Commander Post 74, Pledge of Allegiance was given by Sean Durand and Caleb Pierucki Badger Boys, Star Spangled Banner was sung by Robert Smith.
Main speaker was Sgt. Ken Kluge US Army. The Armed Forces Salute was directed by Joyce Eilers and Bob Lowden with the High School Choir directed by Laura Cortright. A 21 gun salute was given by Post 74 and the reading by Alayna Westenberg, Badger Girls, followed by Taps by Ethan Brooks of the Oconto High School Band.
The return of Colors, Post 74 and the recessional of veterans and auxiliary to the OHS media center for a reception sponsored by OHS Student Council and America the Beautiful by Bill Moffitt and Oconto High School Band. The veteran's organization thank the Elementary School for a spectacular concert and the delicious breakfast that was served. The organizations Commander thanked the High School for such a marvelous Veterans Day program and the Student Council for such a delicious luncheon and reception.
