More Treatment for Marinette Co.
Issue Date: November 21, 2019
State Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette), author of 30 bipartisan bills aimed at combating opioid abuse, sated, "I am happy to see that due to Republican action in the state budget, Marinette County will be receiving additional funding to help expand the adult drug court program. These additional dollars will go a long way in helping allow more individuals to begin their path to recovery."
In the budget passed by Republicans, $2 million was provided for treatment and diversion (TAD) programs around the state. This now brings state funding to $14.4 million over the 2019-21 biennium. In total, 53 counties and three tribes have TAD programs.
These programs are alternatives for individuals charged with certain crimes to prosecution and incarceration. The individuals enrolled in the program will have the chance to receive the help and support they need in order to become and remain contributing members of society.
"TAD programs have been shown to be effective. In lieu of incarceration, these programs offer counseling and treatment. I would like to thank my Republican colleagues for their continued support of this program and appreciate Marinette County's dedication to this issue," Nygren concluded.
